  Book Sales

The first “Semi-Annual Book Sale” has had a successful launch.  We thank all those who attended and hope they all found books that will fill their coming days and months with great pleasure.

For the inaugural of the semi-annual format, we had over 700 patrons, about half the number who attended our last book sale in January.  They were pleasantly surprised that so many books, over 9,000, could be showcased in

the library’s Community Room.  When questioned about the scope of the sale, patrons said that they enjoyed the same selection of book categories, the quality of the books, and the usual reasonable cost of adding to their personal libraries.  Bag day was a resoundingly successful end to the sale.  The word had gone out that this was a “real sale” and there were plenty of good books just ripe for the picking.  We sold over 200 bags at $8.00 each.  It was a wonderful sight to see everyone closely studying each book and joyfully placing it in their bag(s).

The Silent Auction of collectible books continued its past successes.  Three main selections brought in nearly $500.  One was an 1812 edition of Weems’ Life of George Washington in poor condition, but it still brought $50 in its “as is condition”.  Over $800+ was realized through the auction.

All the proceeds from Seymour ’s and the two book sales go toward library books, materials and programs - all principles of the Friends’ mission statement.  Book sales have also enabled the Friends to contribute library enhancements, the most recent being our lovely Courtyard.

When you buy in Seymour's Bookstore all the money goes to the

Friends of the Library, and ultimately,

to our Library.

READ YOUR E-MAILS ABOUT UPCOMING BOOK SALES!

About Seymour’s E-Mails

Seymour’s Bookstore is happy to send out e-mails advising you of our five smaller book sales in the Ponte Vedra Beach Library each year, where we have hundreds of books for sale. Our e-mails also let you know about special books we are saving for the sale. Unfortunately, we find many illegible e-mail addresses in our store’s "visitors’ book".

If you have changed e-mail addresses or are not receiving Seymour’s messages, please e-mail
seymoursbookstore@yahoo.com, with your correct e-mail address if you haven’t been receiving the messages. If you’d like to be added to or taken off the list, let us know. Sometimes Check This Out! mailings don’t mesh with sale dates, and the e-mail list will help let you know about the sales.

Donations

Seymour’s receives donations every day --- anywhere from 1 to 300 books. People move, a relative dies, a parent decides her 18-year-college-freshman is not going to read his/her kiddie books any more. We especially love those giant art books, biographies, great children’s books, non-fiction books relating to animals, cooking, health, travel, finance, military, spiritual, reference, psychology, the theater. Best of all? We love books published in the current year, which we typically sell for $8.

What Do We Accept?

Books in good to mint condition in small or medium-sized boxes or grocery bags.

What Do We Not Accept?

Encyclopedias, magazines, records, textbooks and books on health, finance and business older than a few years.  As always, thank you Ponte Vedra readers for your continuing generous donations of books.
