The Friends of the Library - Ponte Vedra Beach, Inc. were one of two Friends of the Library groups nationwide to receive a prize of two solid oak library chairs valued at over $1,200 for sharing their best ideas. Friends of Libraries U.S.A. asked Friends groups from across the country to submit their best ideas for publication in a book which was published in the 2004.

The Ponte Vedra Beach Friends submitted two ideas for the publication. In the category of "Public Awareness," they entered for their Friends Festival held last fall to celebrate the reopening of the Ponte Vedra Branch Library which had been closed for eight months for expansion and renovation. The second entry was for "Ponte Vedra Raises Readers" in the "Programs" category. This program encourages parents of new-born babies to register their children at the library. They are given a Ponte Vedra Raises Readers tote bag that includes new books for the baby, information for the new parents, and a special new library card.

Friends of Libraries U.S.A. is a national organization supporting local Friends of the Library groups. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, membership includes over 2,000 Friends groups, libraries, and individuals representing hundreds of thousands of library supporters across the country.
