NEWS & VIEWS

Ponte Vedrans Volunteer

As Staff Volunteer Coordinator, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation and admiration for our volunteers, past and present, and extend a warm welcome to all interested in volunteering for the first time.  The Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library has a unique connection to volunteers: they were the very founders of the library.  We have come a long way since our first library, a small, white trailer trailer  run by our first dedicated volunteers.  The building of our current library was, and continues to be, a community effort.

Our volunteers contribute in many ways, from shelving, keeping newspapers and magazines up-to-date, helping patrons, planning and assisting with events for all ages, and doing artwork for event promotion.  Volunteers are essential to the library running smoothly and are a vital part of our mission.

We even have a special VolunTeen program for people ages 12 to 18, and time worked can be applied to school or church community service hours.  In addition to regular volunteer duties, VolunTeens are welcome to help with math tutoring and reading to children. They may also join the Teen Advisory Board and have a say in their library materials and event programming.

If you would like to volunteer, please join us for an orientation session, held every Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M.  We would love to have you as part of our team.  For more information on volunteer opportunities, please call Young Adult/Technology Librarian at 904-827-6950, or our Volunteer Coordinator Gail Worth at  280-7582.  See you at the library!
